Bethel Finances: Shekel strengthens

The shekel is strenghtening against the dollar and euro in morning inter-bank trading today. The shekel-dollar exchange rate is up 0.17%, compared with Friday's representative rate, to NIS 3.593/$, and the shekel-euro exchange rate is down 0.93% to NIS 5.063/€.

In international markets, the euro is weakening despite European financial leaders' efforts to manage the debt crisis. The focus is currently on locating financing sources to broaden the European €1 trillion bailout fund. European leaders are meeting with their counterparts in China, Japan, Brazil and South Korea in an effort to raise additional funds.

The dollar has strengthened 0.7%against the euro to $1.404€, and rose against the Japanese yen to ¥79.2/, after the Bank of Japan intervened in the market to weaken the yen to avoid harming exports.
