Bethel Fiannec news:

Cellcom Israel Ltd. (NYSE:CEL; TASE:CEL) has chosen Sweden's Ericsson AB (OMX; Nasdaq: ERIC) to upgrade half of its network to 4G. Nokia Siemens Networks won the first half of the project six months ago.

Ericsson will upgrade Cellcom's network in the south, and Nokia Siemens will upgrade it in the north. The upgrade of cellular sites will facilitate Cellcom's provision of faster speeds in line with developments of end equipment, which is usually the bottleneck for increasing network speeds, the development of which is slower than infrastructures.

Today, Cellcom announced new measures to deal with the expected increase in smartphones and tablets. It is offering new internet packages that emphasize customization rather than internet access speed. The new plan offers a maximum speed of 5.6 Mbps, well below the top speed that the company's network can support.

"Cellcom is trying to avoid being dragged after its rival, Pelephone Communications Ltd., which focuses on internet speed in its sales pitch. Instead, Cellcom is focusing on the user experience, which it believes is more important to subscribers than speed" Said Peres Sailam from Bethel Finance Ltd.

Cellcom VP Nir Stern said, "Cellcom is investing NIS 100 million in upgrading its mobile and transmission networks to support up to 84 Mbps."
