Bethel Finance news:
Over the past few days, the Ministry of Finance has been considering ways of reducing the widening state budget deficit. One of the options being examined is a hike in fuel excise from next month, "Yediot Ahronot" reports.
The Ministry of Finance's consideration of the matter comes after the Trajtenberg tax recommendations were passed by the Knesset as part of which a planned NIS 0.40 per liter excise hike was cancelled. The Ministry of Finance is now mulling a NIS 0.10-20 per liter rise which would bring an extra NIS 1-1.25 billion into the state coffers.
A source close to the Ministry of Finance said yesterday, "It's quite possible that there will be no choice but to raise the excise with the current situation of the budget looking bleak."
The Ministry of Finance said in response, "No decisions have yet been taken on the matter."
