Bethel Finance news:
In the last few years, the environmental justice issue of privatizing natural resources in Israel has received a great deal of attention, specifically with respect to the Dead Sea Works, owned by the Ofer family's Israel Chemicals Ltd. (TASE: ICL), as well as the gas fields in Israel, specifically the Tamar and Leviathan licenses, some of which are controlled by Yitzhak Tshuva's Delek Drilling LP (TASE: DEDR.L). The amount of royalties that the Ofer Brothers pay the state, compared with the cumulative damage being caused to the Dead Sea basin, and Tshuva's continuing campaign over the amount of royalties payable to the state on gas reserves have put the subject of national resources distribution in Israel on the national agenda.
In a session titled, "The exploitation of natural resources - Who gains and who loses?," which will be take place at the 2011 "Globes" Israel Business Conference, with the participation of the Minister of Environmental Protection Gilad Erdan, the real cost of natural resources, and how to price these resources in the most appropriate way, will be discussed.
The question of how the benefits and profits resulting from the resources can be divided fairly between the franchisees and the public, and how to conserve resources for future generations, will also be discussed.
Among other participants in the session will be:
* Prof. Eitan Sheshinski, Department of Economics of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem
* Dalia Dorner, former Supreme Court judge, and president of the Israel Press Council
* Deputy Attorney General Avi Licht
* Alona Shefer-Karo, Ministry of Environmental Protection director general
* "Globes" reporter Yuval Azulai will be the moderator.
