Bethel Finance news:
The local authorities strike continues today, after mayors last night rejected Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's proposal to hold negotiations for four weeks over the document they presented last night.
Earlier, mayors presented Netanyahu with a document that listed 14 main points demanding changes, such as lowering water prices and amending the arnona (local property tax) deductions for various groups. Netanyahu accepted the document, but referred the mayors to his bureau chief because of the high costs involved - billions of shekels.
Mayors who belong to the Likud party, decided to break the strike. The mayors of Netanya, Nazareth Ilit, and Modiin criticized the conduct of Union of Local Authorities chairman Shlomo Bohbot, the mayor of Maalot-Tarshiha. "This strike is political. Bohbot, who is not a Likud member, has forgotten what the main purpose of the strike is," they said.
Following the blow-up in negotiations, the local authorities strike that began yesterday will continue. However, special education institutions throughout the country, and local authorities around Gaza, will operate as usual.
Maoz: "Spitting in the citizens' faces"
In the Channel 10 program, "Economic Evening", Excellence Investments Ltd. (TASE: EXCE) chief economist Shlomo Maoz said that the government's actions are like spitting in the face of all of the people who participated in the huge social protests this past summer. "It is better to be stuck in the garbage (that won't be collected as a result of the strike) and to protest against this government," he said.
