Bethel Finance news:
The cabinet today approved a NIS 19 billion plan to move IDF bases from central Israel to the planned Computers Campus and Intelligence Center at Training Base City in the Negev. The decision comes after years of delays.
By 2018, Intelligence Corp's bases and units will move to Kiryat Omer and the Computer Division will move to the Science Park in Beersheva. The Ministry of Finance will allocate NIS 9 billion for the move, the Ministry of Defense will allocate NIS 4 billion, and NIS 6 billion will come from the proceeds of the sale of the vacated bases in central Israel.
It will be possible to build tens of thousands of apartments on the sites vacated bases. The IDF is due to vacate 2,000 dunam (500 acres) in Tel Hashomer, 2,000 dunam (500 acres) in Zerifin, and a 70-dunam (17.5-acre) base in Ramat Gan.
The cabinet first approved moving the Intelligence Corps' bases in 2005, but the move was delayed because of disagreements over the cost and the budget sources.
