Sources inform "Globes" that a new phase in the consumer boycott of food products is set to begin. The boycott leaders have decided to take to the streets and no longer be satisfied with confining protests to the internet and media.
On Thursday afternoon, 20 groups of protesters will visit supermarkets in Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, Rishon Lezion, Beersheva, Zichron Ya'akov, Hod Hasharon, Rehovot, Holon, Ramat Gan, Givatayim, Ramla, Haifa and Netanya.
Dudi Machpud, one of the boycott leaders said, "We will stand outside the supermarkets and hand out pamphlets and speak to consumers, so they will understand what is taking place and that our struggle is carrying on. We already thought about this step two weeks ago and the timing is fantastic because the struggle is no longer making headlines. They say that the boycott succeeded and the consumers won, even though it is not true. Putting down the price of cottage cheese is a drop in the ocean, and what is required is real revolution."
The pamphlets being prepared will include a table comparing prices of products in Israel with countries abroad. Below the table it will say, "Even so we stayed silent. We got used to the feeling that things weren't OK. How many times have we said 'that's just how it is' or 'there is nothing we can do?' Friends, no more! Over 125,000 Israelis have already joined the struggle against the overpricing of food products. The power and ability to change things is in our hands. Don't let the supermarkets and other companies milk you any more. Join up and stop buying certain products. We will not fund those who are exploiting us and together we will create a better future for all of us."
