Bethel Finances: Energy stocks, banks lead falls

The Tel Aviv Stock Exchange (TASE) fell today. The Tel Aviv 25 Index fell 1.71% to 1,211.08 points, the Tel Aviv 100 Index fell 1.60% to 1,095.85 points, and the BlueTech 50 Index fell 1.29% to 266.14 points. Turnover was NIS 2.01 billion.

The falls on the TASE today came after two days of rises. On the week as a whole, the main indices were virtually unchanged, after the Tel Aviv 25 Index fell 1.1% last week.

Trading took place against the backdrop of the Greek parliament approving a budget cut, which will enable it to receive assistance from the EU, while the US Federal Reserve Bank decided to leave the interest rate unchanged at 0-0.25%, and lowered the US growth forecast.

June options on the Tel Aviv 25 expired today with a fall of 0.25%.

In the bond market, long-term Shahar unlinked government bonds rose by 0.2%, and long-term Galil CPI-linked bonds ranged rose by 0.1%. The corporate bond benchmark Tel-Bond 20 Index fell 0.1%.

In the foreign currency market, the shekel-dollar representative exchange rate rose 0.8% to NIS 3.45/$, and the shekel-euro representative exchange rate fell 0.19% to NIS 4.906/€.

In the market, negative sentiment was felt in Delek Group Ltd. (TASE: DLEKG) oil exploration units Avner Oil and Gas LP (TASE: AVNR.L) and Delek Drilling Limited Partnership (TASE:DEDR.L) which lost 4.5% and 3.95% respectively. Delek Group itself lost 3.9% after major gains over the past few days. Delek Energy Systems Ltd. (TASE:DEOL) fell 2.1% after rising 9.4% yesterday following reports that Yitzhak Tshuva plans delisting the company.

The Banking Index, which was the only index to fall yesterday, was again in negative territory. Bank Hapoalim (TASE: POLI) and Bank Leumi (TASE: LUMI) lost 3.2% and 3% respectively. However, over the week Hapoalim gained 5.2% and Leumi 4.5%.

UBS raised its recommendation on Israel Corp. (TASE:ILCO) to "Buy" with a target price up from NIS 4,560 to NIS 5,068. Nevertheless, the share price still lost 2.3%.

The day's highest turnover, of NIS 194 million, was in Israel Chemicals Ltd. (TASE: ICL), which rose 0.6%.

Alvarion Ltd. (Nasdaq: ALVR; TASE: ALVR) soared 10.6%. This week the share reached its lowest ever point from which it has risen 18.3% over the past two days.

Negev Ceramics Ltd. (TASE:NGEV) rose 7.1% after its controlling company Africa-Israel Industries Ltd. (TASE: AFID) (formerly Packer Plada) announced it was investing NIS 26 million in it at a 15% premium on today's opening price for a 9% stake.
