Bethel Finance news:

The president of IsDMA for the past seven years, Moti Ganz – who also serves as president of the International Diamond Manufacturers Association – was unanimously elected honorary president.

Abraham (Bumi) Traub, 61, was born in the southern Ukraine. He made aliya at the age of 23 and joined Kibbutz Ein Zurim. In 1973 he began studying diamond polishing. After finishing his army service, he began working as a diamond manufacturer, and in 1992 then-president Chaim Herzog awarded him exporter of the year for his company’s 1991 exports.

Bumi Traub began working on behalf of the diamond industry in 1979 in the small Etgar exchange. As vice president of Etgar he began working to bring members from the small bourse to the big one. The process was completed in 1986, after 300 Etgar members joined the Israel Diamond Exchange.

In 1979 Bumi Traub was one of the founders of the Association for the Advancement of Diamond Manufacturing, which worked on behalf of small and mid-size manufacturers. He was elected president of the association in 1989. After four years, he worked to merge the association with IsDMA. After the merger in 1993, Traub served as acting president of IsDMA until 1995, and served as a member of the IDE directorship for many years, as well as acting president.

Bumi Traub has been active in the IsDMA for many years. He has headed various committees, including the tax and financing committee and the subcommitte for non-sightholders. He has served as director of the Israel Diamond Institute and as head of the IDI’s finance committee.

At IsDMA’s 2007 general meeting, Bumi Traub was awarded the title of honorary president for his example in choosing inter-organizational cooperation over personal interests.

The organization Bumi Traub will head – IsDMA – was founded in 1940 and represents all the diamond manufacturers in Israel that manufacture here or abroad. IsDMA is the representative body of employers in the diamond industry and works to advance the sector’s standing with government agencies and international forums.

Outgoing president Moti Ganz said: “Bumi Traub ‘made himself’ with his own two hands. He started as a new immigrant with no profession and climbed to the top of the Israeli Diamond Industry. Bumi Traub has a thorough knowledge of all the practical and managerial aspects of diamond manufacturing. We are in a period of struggle, and no one is a better fit than Bumi Traub to lead this struggle and put Israel’s diamond industry at the global forefront. I am resigning as president of IsDMA after seven years of work; I will continue to work on behalf of the Israeli Diamond Industry as IDI chairman, as president of IDMA, and as honorary president of the organization that is so close to my heart.”

President-elect Bumi Traub said: “I have already served as president of the exporters’ association and received an award as honorary president of the association, and despite that I’ve taken on an additional and demanding public role because the future of the Israel Diamond Industry is very dear to my heart.”

“I have made Israel my first home, the diamond industry my second home, and I am committed to both of them with all my heart and soul. As someone who has worked his entire career for cooperation, I will continue to do so, so that together – with our combined strength – we can maintain the Israeli Diamond Industry’s status as a world leader. The world diamond industry is currently facing many challenges that could affect the sector’s stability and its future. I trust that the extensive experience I bring with me to the job as president of IsDMA will allow me to lead the Israeli industry in this changing world and bring it to new heights.”
