Flights will take off as usual from Ben Gurion Airport after 8 pm, the Israel Airports Authority announced this evening. Planes are being refueled and it will be business as usual until tests are again made before Monday night at 10 pm.
The latest announcement comes after laboratory tests that were conducted this morning at the entrance of the fuel farm at the airport found that the water separation coefficient in the fuel was low. There were concerns that water might have seeped into the fuel tanks, which apparently does not contaminate the fuel, but does dilute it. However, additional tests were made during the day by experts, and it was decided after consulting with the International Air Transport Association (IATA) to carry on fueling aircraft, including long-haul flights.
The Ministry of National Infrastructures also issued an update after being notified this morning by Paz Oil Company Ltd. unit Paz Aviation Services and Assets Ltd. about the dilution of the jet fuel. The Ministry examined jet fuel throughout the supply chain in an attempt to locate the source of any problem. The Ministry said, "Currently there are no findings on the subject. The Ministry continues to investigate the topic and is assisting the IAA and Paz in handling the matter."
Six months ago, jet fuel contamination was discovered in the Ben Gurion Airport fuel filters, which caused serious disruptions in flights for several days.
